FFXIV: A Realm Re-Exercised

Overview

Final Fantasy XIV became one of the biggest MMOs out of nowhere. Not only was the game just really good, someone messed up really bad with their games and lost the slot. On the bright side, I've been doing my morning jogs across Eorzea and honestly... they're quite fun. The Ring fit mod for FFXIV is still in the works however it currently works for basic movement and skills!

I finally finished my #FFXIV exercise controller! To move in-game you have to Run IRL □‍♂️. For combat Squatting activates down d-pad which means wall to wall pulls as a Tank can be a nice leg day.

Let's talk about how this works! □ pic.twitter.com/8QdZV48fRS

How to Set-up (Cronus Zen)

So there are 2 versions of the Ring fit x FFXIV build. One that locks out your joysticks until you start walking or jogging and one that let's you use it on a bicycle. I have a YouTube Video that does the basic set-up of the hardware! Once that's done upload the corresponding script below and you're good to go. For those who need a quick written tutorial here's one below:

Also remember one HUGE REMINDER: SWAP the location of your Joy-cons for these Ring Fit Mods. The Ring-Con Joy-Con is now in your Leg Strap. The Leg Strap Joy-Con is now in your Left Hand.

  • What you'll need!
    • The Cronus Zen: Amazon Link
    • Two Joy-Cons!
    • Zen Studio (Software to interact with the Cronus Zen): Webpage

Head over to my Cronus Zen GitHub Repository and download the Elden Ring Fit Adventure file! You'll need to upload the .gpc file to your Cronus Zen before using it on any of the platforms. Below is a quick rundown on how to set-up your Cronus Zen with the assumption you've read/watched the tutorial! If you need help DM me on Twitter or visit Cronus Zen's Manual for more information!

  1. Connect your Cronus Zen to your PC via the Prog port (the port on the right side of the Cronus Zen). Open up the Zen Studio Software!
  2. Connect the Cronus Zen to your Console of choice by connecting the port of the back side of Cronus Zen into an open USB port.
  3. Connect your Joy-Cons to the Cronus by pressing and holding the P2 button (Left blue button on the Cronus Zen). Once the Cronus starts flashing press and hold the Sync button on the Joy-Cons to pair them. They will rumble once connected
  4. Head to the Compiler Menu on the Zen Studio and open up the .GPC file you wish to use.
  5. Navigate to the top of the program to find the Compiler menu -> Build and Run.
  6. The Device Monitor menu will appear and you're ready to go!

The Cronus Zen Scripts

  • The Exercise Bike Build
    • For this you can use a treadmill or Stationary bike to play FFXIV! The controls are meant for purely running across the overworld. Running/Biking makes your character run forward. Still a prototype so let me know what improvements that can be set
    • Upload this script to your Cronus zen: https://github.com/SuperLouis64/RingFitMods-CronusZen/blob/main/ffxiv_bike.gpc
  • The Run and Job Build
    • This build locks your joysticks until you start moving and you have access to some of your crossbar. So technically you can run and play but we'll need some user feedback for this one.
    • Upload this script to your Cronus Zen: https://github.com/SuperLouis64/RingFitMods-CronusZen/blob/main/FFXIV_RingFit.gpc

How to set-up for Titan Two

For the Titan Two method the out-of-the-box Joy-Cons work!

Final Thoughts?

This isn't the end for the FFXIV x Ring Fit however I'll need some more time make a solidified version. The more feedback we can get the better! I'm currently trying to make this work with the Steam Deck which could be really fun. Let me know your thoughts on twitter: @SuperLouis_64
